God did not call us to watch the world and sit by helplessly. He did not call us just to go to church and watch others preach the word. While church is an important part of being a Christian, it is not a place that we just sit and listen. It is where we should be encouraged, be prepared to go out into the world and be empowered to do the will of God.
James 1:22-25 (NKJV)22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
What will you do Monday through Saturday to show the love of Christ to those who don’t know him? Are you being the light on your job or do you take your place amongst the grumblers? Are you a fragrance or an odor?
God has called us to do the work not just in church but in our daily lives, in the choices we make, in the things we do.
Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15) “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent”(John 6:29).
We can preach the gospel in our attitudes, in our conversation, in the way we walk; we can be examples to others and show the love of Christ. Eg: We can share a smile with those who seem bitter, show mercy to those who have wronged us, share our time with those who are lonely, feed the hungry, clothe the poor, teach our children to be obedient, invite spiritual seekers to church. Most importantly, Love God with all your heart, soul & mind(Mark 12:30) and love your neighbor as yourself(Mark 12:31).
Let us honor and glorify God by doing the work He has called us to do.
